Firefighters responded to an apartment fire in south Davis on Saturday morning, where they found a resident who had died.

The Davis Fire Department received a call from a passerby shortly before 8:15 a.m., Battalion Chief Matt Galloway said. When crews arrived, a fire was ablaze in a bedroom at the Owendale Mutual Housing Community on the 3000 block of Albany Avenue.
Firefighters contained the fire to the room, Galloway said, and it did not spread to other units. Galloway said the fire was under control “within minutes.”
A dog was also at the residence, Galloway said, and was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.

A 24-hour caretaker also frequents the home, Galloway said, but they were not there at the time of the fire.
The Davis police and fire departments will investigate the fire, according to the Fire Department. The cause of death will be determined by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office.
