Pam Shriver Criticizes ESPN For Its Lack Of Female Announcers

Longtime women’s tennis star and sports media figure Pam Shriver hasn’t been thrilled with ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon this year.

ESPN aired the women’s singles final on Saturday afternoon. Linda Noskova topped Karolina Muchova in the women’s final, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. On Sunday morning, the men’s final, between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, will be airing live on ESPN.

Shriver, a longtime women’s tennis star and tennis analyst, hasn’t been thrilled with the lack of female announcers at Wimbledon this year. She took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice her official complaint regarding the setup this year.

Shriver made her complaint clear.

“Interesting ESPN has chosen two men and just one woman to call a Ladies’ final. The other day for women’s semis BBC had all female teams for both semi finals. Tomorrow will be all men calling men’s final. It’s a tough workplace for women. Great start for Noskova,” she wrote on X.

Tennis fans are coming to ESPN’s defense, though

Tennis fans have come to ESPN’s defense.

“Sounds more like a bitter ex-employee than someone who genuinely thinks the broadcast is compromised. Yesterday’s studio panel was three women and one man, and I didn’t see anyone complaining about that. Funny how selective the outrage can be,” one fan wrote.

“The reason there is 2 out of 3 being men is because Chrissie Evert is dealing with her issues otherwise MJ would’ve been on the sideline. Way to make a non story a story,” one fan added.

“I think Chris and Mary Jo are doing an excellent job. I personally don’t care if it’s male or female announcers as long as they are knowledgeable and interesting,” another fan added.

Others, meanwhile, agree.

“You’re exactly right about that Pam. I noticed that same thing . Also, I didn’t know some of the male commentators. I assume they’re talking heads for ESPN as they didn’t seem to know that much about tennis. ESPN should be ashamed of their shoddy treatment of women!!” one fan added.
