Greg Hawthorne, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first-round pick in 1979, passed away over the weekend. Hawthorne played for the Steelers for five seasons, winning Super Bowl XIV. He later played for the Patriots and Colts.
The do-it-all player spent time at running back, receiver, and tight end during his eight-year NFL career, ultimately finishing with 527 rushing yards, 1,112 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.

Tributes are pouring in for the former NFL Super Bowl champion
“Another one has moved on. Despite his issues like many men, Greg Hawthorne was a FINE person, who I was fortunate enough to have known and shared time with! RIP my brother!” one fan wrote.
“27 was a blur in the backfield – RIP,” one fan added.
“Rest in peace to a legend,” one fan added.
“I’m so sorry,,, he was one of the best,” another fan added.
