Norway’s star striker became a national sensation in the United States for both his big goals and fun-loving personality. He also gave star actor Tom Holland a bit of a reality check while he was in the United States.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the star of the Spider-Man franchise revealed that he got snubbed by Haaland when he tried to invite the soccer star to hang out with him. Holland explained that the two had an encounter at the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix a few weeks ago and decided to send him a message.
“I was watching Lewis [Hamilton] race, and I saw him,” Holland explained. “He was [in] like a hospitality suite across from me, and I just thought I’d shoot my shot. Send him a text.”
But Haaland didn’t appear interested in talking to him at all, let alone join him for a friendly dinner. Holland called it “a humbling experience” to be ignored by the soccer star.
“That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors,” Holland said. “I’ll text him, I’ll take him to dinner… not even a response. Not an excuse, not, ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football.’ Nada.”
England vs. Norway
It probably won’t help future efforts from Holland to get to know Haaland that he is an English soccer fan. England did just beat Norway in somewhat controversial fashion to knock Haaland out of their World Cup run.

England advanced to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals with a dramatic 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway on July 11, overcoming an early deficit to keep its title hopes alive. Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup before Jude Bellingham equalized deep into first-half stoppage time in controversial fashion.
After a scoreless second half, Bellingham struck again in the 93rd minute of extra time to complete the comeback and send the Three Lions into the semifinals. The defeat ended Norway’s deepest World Cup run in history despite another impressive tournament led by Haaland.
But the aftermath of the game was overshadowed by controversy surrounding England’s first goal. Moments before Bellingham’s first half equalizer, Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland launched a goal kick that appeared to change direction near an overhead SkyCam cable, prompting Norwegian players and coach Ståle Solbakken to argue the ball had struck the wire.
Under FIFA’s rules, play should have been stopped and restarted with a dropped ball if the cable had been contacted. However, the goal was allowed to stand after officials did not halt play, and FIFA later said data from its Connected Ball Technology showed no evidence that the ball touched the cable, despite video angles that fueled debate among fans and analysts. The decision remained one of the tournament’s most hotly disputed officiating moments, with Norway maintaining the incident affected the outcome of the match.
