The fair intends to find out with a Fair Food Competition scheduled Monday.
“From deep-fried creations to gourmet twists on classics, the competition highlights the must-try bites of the fair — and you can be there to see who takes home the ribbons!” fair officials said.
A panel of guest judges will sample dishes and award ribbons in several categories.
Fairgoers are invited to watch the live judging from 4:30- 7:30 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.

The event will take place at the SMUD Energy Efficient Cooking Theatre.
The contest is open to all fair food vendors.
“Entries range from outrageous indulgences to modern takes on cultural classics — all made fresh by the talented chefs and vendors who feed the fair,” officials said.
The California State Fair at Cal Expo at 1600 Exposition Blvd. in Sacramento opened Friday and runs through Aug. 2.
The fair is open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
