Animal lovers will have the chance to welcome a new pet into their homes at a reduced cost as Placer County Animal Services prepares to participate in the 12th annual nationwide Clear the Shelters adoption campaign.

The monthlong event will begin Aug. 1 and will offer $10 adoption fees for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.

Prospective adopters can get an early start through an adoption special that began Saturday, allowing them to meet adoptable pets and potentially bring one home before the official campaign begins.
To help pets adjust to their new homes, adoptions will include starter supplies such as food, a toy, a scoop and other essentials.

The annual Clear the Shelters campaign encourages animal shelters nationwide to find permanent homes for animals in their care. Organizers said each adoption, whether during the early access event or in August, will give an animal a home and create space for other animals in need.
Adoptions will be available at the Auburn Animal Shelter, 11232 B Ave. in Auburn, and the Truckee Animal Shelter, 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee. Prospective adopters can view available pets at placer.ca.gov/1910/Adopt.
