The Elk Grove Unified School District will switch contracting companies for its crossing guard services this school year in a cost-saving move as the district works to reduce its budget deficit.

The district entered into a one-year, $309,900 contract with National Language Service, according to district spokesperson Lisa Levasseur. The contract can be extended for as many as four additional years.
The district selected National Language Service after a request for proposals, determining that the company was the “lowest responsive and responsible bidder,” Levasseur said. The Board of Trustees approved the contract June 9.

Previously, the district had a five-year contract with All City Management Services for crossing guard services, Levasseur said.

“Compared to ACMS, National Language Service LLC’s pricing represents an annual cost savings of approximately $245,669,” Levasseur said. “Over a potential five-year term, this would result in estimated savings of more than $1.22 million for the district.”
The change comes as the district’s Board of Trustees unanimously adopted its $1.16 billion budget for the 2026-27 school year in late June, with plans to cut its deficit by more than 90%, from $57.9 million in 2025-26 to $5.9 million in 2026-27.
