Thunder Valley Casino Resort has named longtime executive Dawn Clayton as its new chief executive officer, promoting a veteran gaming and hospitality leader who has helped oversee the resort’s growth into one of California’s premier casino destinations.

Clayton brings more than four decades of experience in the gaming, hospitality and entertainment industries to the role, including 16 years at Thunder Valley. For the past 13 years, she has overseen the resort’s day-to-day operations across all aspects of the business.
As CEO, Clayton will oversee the resort’s operations while working with the UAIC Tribal Council on Thunder Valley’s long-term strategic direction, including future development projects aimed at expanding the property’s position as a regional destination for gaming, entertainment, dining and hospitality.
The appointment was announced by the United Auburn Indian Community, which owns and operates the Lincoln resort.
United Auburn Indian Community Chairman John L. Williams said the appointment reflects the confidence the Tribe has in Clayton’s leadership, character and vision.
“She leads with humility, decisiveness and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” he said. “She has earned the trust and respect of our Tribal Council, our Team Members and our guests, and there is no one better suited to lead Thunder Valley into its next chapter.”
Williams credited Clayton with helping lead several of the resort’s most significant milestones, including the expansion of its luxury hotel, the development of The Venue entertainment center and the growth of Thunder Valley’s concert and entertainment lineup.

He also praised her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying she helped position the resort for a strong recovery while maintaining a focus on employees, guests and the Tribal community.

Since joining Thunder Valley in 2010, Clayton has played a key role in the property’s transformation into one of Northern California’s leading integrated resorts. Today, Thunder Valley attracts millions of visitors annually and is one of Placer County’s largest employers and economic drivers.
“I am deeply honored by the confidence the United Auburn Indian Community has placed in me,” Clayton said. “Everything Thunder Valley has accomplished has been made possible by the Tribe’s vision and leadership, along with the extraordinary dedication of our Team Members.”
Clayton said she looks forward to building on the resort’s success while continuing to enhance the guest experience, support employees and advance the tribe’s long-term vision.
Before joining Thunder Valley, Clayton built a career spanning more than 44 years in commercial casinos, racinos, riverboat gaming and tribal gaming operations, giving her experience across nearly every segment of the gaming industry.
