A man was arrested early Thursday after a more than three-hour standoff at a North Highlands hotel ended peacefully following a SWAT response, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded about midnight to Sacramento Inn & Suites, on the 4300 block of Watt Avenue, after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators said the 33-year-old suspect allegedly attempted to cut a man with a box cutter during an argument. The victim was not injured.
When deputies arrived, the suspect went into a hotel room and refused repeated commands to come outside, prompting deputies to establish a perimeter. Authorities later learned the man’s juvenile daughter was also inside the room, said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Ed Igoe.
Because of suspect’s criminal history, which includes firearms-related charges, the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail, or SWAT team, was called to the scene. The girl exited the room safely before the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident at about 3:45 a.m., Igoe said.

The man was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing law enforcement and committing a felony while out on bail. Sheriff’s officials said he previously had been arrested on suspicion of possessing an assault weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The man remained in jail custody in lieu of a $500,000 bond and is expected to appear before a judge during a Monday arraignment in Sacramento Superior Court.
