The Miami Dolphins signed Jalen Tolbert hoping he would be one of their starting receivers this season.

Although he will likely make the 53-man roster, Tolbert has had an up-and-down training camp, according to reports.
Like several of Miami’s receivers, Tolbert has struggled with consistency and has had a relatively quiet camp overall. In a video shared by Miami Herald Dolphins reporter C. Isaiah Small II on X, Tolbert expressed confidence that he can return to the form he showed while with the Dallas Cowboys in 2024.
“What I did two years ago when I was in Dallas, I know what I’m capable of,” Tolbert said. “I know what I can do to help this team, I know what I can do in this league. So just earning my opportunities, earning some points of attack on the menu, helping this team take it to another level. Being a leader for those guys in the room. Obviously we’re a young team, young room, so just coming in and showing those guys professionalism that you have to have in this league.”
Tolbert should receive more opportunities with the Dolphins
During his four seasons in Dallas, Tolbert established himself as a big-play, versatile receiver. In 2024, he finished with 49 catches for 610 yards and seven touchdowns.
But after the Cowboys acquired George Pickens in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tolbert’s playing time and production decreased. He recorded 18 receptions for 203 yards and one touchdown while being a healthy scratch for four games.
Tolbert will have more opportunity with the Dolphins given the state of their receiver corps. He is competing with Malik Washington and Tutu Atwell for a starting receiver spot, along with Caleb Douglas, who has arguably been Miami’s best receiver throughout training camp.
“I think he’s had some really good moments,” Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said of Tolbert. “Everybody just – it’s the consistency over time. Can they get all that done?
“But the one thing I know, he’s going to go out, he’s going to work really hard every single day. I love the way he’s blocking on the perimeter. I think he has a great attitude. I think he’s really good with the young players and he’s becoming dependable.”
