Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an April attempted robbery at a south Sacramento jewelry store that left a 71-year-old man dead after a stolen vehicle crashed into the business, authorities said.

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives arrested Alfredo Colmenero-Martinez, 24, of Oakland and Jarren Frazier, 35, of Stockton nearly four months after the April 18 robbery attempt of Chinna Jewellers on the 7400 block of Stockton Boulevard, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that Colmenero-Martinez drove the vehicle that struck the victim, while investigators alleged Frazier planned and coordinated the attempted robbery.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant charging Colmenero-Martinez with murder. Frazier was wanted on attempted robbery and conspiracy charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded about 4:30 p.m. April 18 after receiving reports that a vehicle had crashed into the jewelry store. Investigators later determined several people had arrived in six recently stolen vehicles, including one that was deliberately driven into the business, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The suspects encountered an armed private security guard and fled without taking any property, authorities said.
A 71-year-old employee inside the store was struck by the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries. He died 10 days later, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Harjinder Singh of Sacramento.

Investigators said automated license plate readers provided “instrumental” leads that allowed detectives to track vehicles associated with the suspects and connect evidence from multiple jurisdictions.
“Without this technology, this murder would likely remain unsolved,” deputies said in a news release.
Detectives worked with Bay Area law enforcement agencies before identifying Colmenero-Martinez as the suspected driver and Frazier as the alleged organizer of the robbery, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Major Crimes Bureau detectives arrested Colmenero-Martinez in Tracy and Frazier in Concord. Authorities also served search warrants at four locations with assistance from the Oakland Police Department.
Both men were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and remained ineligible for bail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office did not say whether investigators had identified or arrested any of the other people suspected of participating in the attempted robbery.
