The NWS Las Vegas NV issued an extreme heat watch at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday valid from Tuesday 10 a.m. until Friday 8 p.m. The watch is for Death Valley, Eastern Mojave Desert, Including the Mojave National Preserve, Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin and San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley.
The NWS informs, “Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 115 degrees to 118 degrees expected through Death Valley and the Lower Colorado River Valley, with highs between 107 to 110 degrees elsewhere.”

“Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events,” describes the NWS.
This watch is in effect until Friday at 8 p.m.
NWS Heat Wave Safety Tips: Stay safe with these recommendations
- Consume plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Seek shelter: Stay indoors in an air-conditioned room to keep cool.
- Look out for others: Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Child and pet safety: Never leave young children and pets unattended in hot vehicles – car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
- Be cautious outdoors: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
- Time your activities wisely: If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening when the heat is less intense.
- Recognize warning signs: Familiarize yourself with symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In an emergency, call 911.
