“You’re disrespecting the game of basketball” – Patrick Beverley tries to make sense of Enes Freedom and Royce White’s WNBA Draft plans

The NBA has essentially kept its distance from its two alumni who have rocked women’s basketball by announcing their intent to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft. Perhaps because that is unrealistic, the NBA and its players have refused to even talk about the matter. Patrick Beverley has broken that silence.

Speaking recently on the “Melrose Podcast,” the former NBA guard called on Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White to stop what they are doing because it’s doing more harm than good to the WNBA and its players.

“Enes Kanter, Royce White, I don’t like what y’all are doing at all,” said Beverley. “I think you’re disrespecting the brand that showed y’all a lot of respect. I think you’re disrespecting the game of basketball, period. You talk about Enes Kanter; you’re not even from here. You come to another country. They give you $102 million. You’ve made a name for being in the NBA, and you coming here saying you want to try out for the WNBA?”

There are other ways to prove their point

Freedom and White made headlines when they announced they would identify as women to enter next year’s WNBA Draft. But perhaps more than actually playing against women, both ex-NBA guys are simply trying to prove to the WNBA that biological males need to be kept off the league because they would have inherent physical advantages over their female counterparts.

At 6’10” and 250 pounds, Enes would be the biggest player ever in the “W.” He would be literally unstoppable if he played against women. The same thing can be said about the 6’8″ and 260-pound White, who would be too strong for anybody and would just bulldoze his way against women in the WNBA.

“I understand the point that y’all are trying to make, but what y’all doing ain’t right,” added Beverley. “We just got the ladies the bag. They getting a lot of airtime right now. The game is lit. You got new teams coming to the league that’s popping off right. Regardless of what message y’all are trying to get out there, bro, it’s a way to do it. IT’s a hundred ways to skin a cat, bro.”

Pat Bev once said that the Las Vegas Aces can beat an NBA team

While Beverley did not suggest other ways, he thinks Freedom and White can prove the point they are trying to make; he has never been shy about throwing his support for the WNBA. In fact, Pat Bev believes in the women so much that he controversially said last year that the WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces, could beat an NBA team in an exhibition match.

“I’m not saying that they can beat the ‘Greek Freaks,’ the Giannises and all that. But you give me some motherf—s off the bench in Washington, the Wizards. If you give me some motherfu—s off the bench from the Hornets, I’ll put my money on them,” he said.

The Aces beating a second unit from the NBA? Sounds unlikely. But as far as Freedom and White finding other ways to put sense into the WNBA for its stance on transgender athletes playing in women’s sports, he is very correct about that. Just tell us how it should be done, Pat Bev.
