Placer County deputies have arrested a 19-year-old Nevada County man in connection with the Aug. 11 armed robbery of a Colfax gas station, sheriff’s officials said.

Joshua Paulin Jr., 19, of Grass Valley, will face charges in connection with the robbery, Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. A witness told deputies that Paulin went into the gas station and left with alcohol without paying. When the witness confronted him, Paulin allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at the witness before driving away in a silver-colored sedan, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Placer County deputies used automated license plate readers to track Paulin’s vehicle and sent an alert to neighboring law enforcement agencies. Paulin was known to Grass Valley police, who helped Placer County detectives find additional evidence and locate him.
Detectives later recovered a firearm and additional evidence from Paulin’s home and car, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Paulin was arrested and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City on an outstanding Sacramento County warrant. Placer County detectives also arrested him on suspicion of the Colfax robbery.
He will be transferred to Placer County custody after his Sacramento County jail commitment ends, the Sheriff’s Office said.
