The search for the suspect began Sunday afternoon when officers received a report of a man running from the Sunrise Mall with a bag and a hammer after a robbery at the jewelry store, the Citrus Heights Police Department announced Monday evening in a news release.
As officers responded, the department’s real-time team using nearby security cameras found the suspect running through the mall’s parking lot. Police said the team kept their eyes on the suspect and directed the officers to his location.
Within 4 minutes of the initial report, officers found and detained the suspect, according to the Police Department.
Police said officers recovered more than $79,000 in jewelry that had just been stolen from the store in the mall.
Detectives obtained search warrants for the suspect’s home and a vehicle associated with him found in the parking lot. Police said the detectives found additional evidence connecting him to Sunday’s jewelry store heist and another robbery in July when $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the same store in the mall.

The Police Department did not provide the name of the jewelry store. Fox 40 reported Sunday’s theft and the July robbery were committed at the KAY Jewelers store at the mall.
Police said officers arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and burglary in connection with the jewelry store thefts.
Custody records show the arrested suspect was booked Sunday at the Sacramento County Jail, and he remained at the jail on Tuesday.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against the suspect, who is scheduled to appear for his arraignment Tuesday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court.
