Sacramento father faces murder charge in 11-month-old child’s death

Officers have arrested a Sacramento man on suspicion of murder after his 11-month-old daughter was found unresponsive at the family’s Pocket neighborhood apartment and later died, Sacramento police said.

Emari Lee Thompson, 27, was arrested by Sacramento police about 6 a.m. Aug. 15 at the apartment in the 500 block of Rivergate Way after officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child, the Sacramento Police Department said.

Officers and emergency personnel tried to revive the child, who later died at a hospital.

Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Zy’ari Alaya Thompson.

Police investigators consulted with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office before arresting Thompson on suspicion of murder in his daughter’s death.

Thompson was being held without bail at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center near Elk Grove.

He was next scheduled to appear March 10 in Sacramento Superior Court, according to jail records.
