A Sutter County jail inmate escaped from custody early Sunday while being treated at Adventist Health and Rideout hospital in Marysville and remained missing Sunday night, authorities said.

Jerome D. Woody, 44, escaped from his hospital room about 3:53 a.m. while under the supervision of a private security company contracted by Sutter County to watch nonviolent inmates, according to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Office deputies and other local law enforcement agencies searched for Woody but had not located him as of Sunday night. Authorities said Woody was not believed to be armed or dangerous; he had been jailed on nonviolent charges.

Woody was described as 5-foot-9 and 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing a hospital gown. The Sheriff’s Office said Woody was unhoused and known to have ties to the Yuba-Sutter area.
Anyone who saw Woody or had information about his whereabouts was asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 530-822-7307 and select option 9.
