A popular downtown Davis restaurant, known for its affordable vegetarian dishes, is closing its doors after more than three decades of service.

Delta of Venus owner Lee Walthall announced his retirement Wednesday on social media. The announcement on Instagram noted it had been an “incredible 33-year run of food, drink, music, art and friendship.”
While the restaurant served breakfast burritos, coffee, and its classic house specials, it also acted as a popular music venue for the Davis and greater Sacramento community, according to the business’s social media. From jazz, to folk to soul music, it was known for spotlighting local talent at its 122 B St. location.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to build community with you all,” staff wrote online. “From the first moments to the last, it has been an amazing, magical ride.”

Wathall, who is 56, purchased the restaurant in 2001 from Audrey Park and Ruth Fankushen. Park and Fankushen started the restaurant in 1993.
Delta of Venus offered something for everyone, beyond music and food. The business hosted crafting workshops, hosted LGBTQ+ prom nights, poetry readings and open mic nights, according to the business’s social media.
“Delta of Venus has always been about the people who come together and share this space,” the restaurant staff wrote.
