A 38-year-old Lincoln man died after a van carrying four people crashed into a tree Wednesday in Arden Arcade, authorities said.

Aaron Daniel Safrans Sr. was identified Thursday by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as the man killed in the crash.
The collision occurred Wednesday afternoon in the 3000 block of Auburn Boulevard near Morse Avenue, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
Firefighters arrived to find four people — three adults and an infant — trapped inside the van after it struck a tree, Metro Fire said. Crews extricated all four occupants and took them to area hospitals.
One of the adults, later identified as Safrans, was taken to a hospital while CPR was in progress, according to Metro Fire.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating whether the driver fell asleep before the crash, CBS Sacramento reported, citing CHP officials.
As of Thursday evening, CHP said the driver, who was described only as a man, could face a manslaughter charge, according to the television station.
Investigators did not believe driving under the influence was a factor in the crash. The investigation remained open.
