A big rig driver who was a member of rapper J. Cole’s touring crew died Thursday morning after his truck veered off Interstate 5 and overturned south of Zamora in Yolo County.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported about 6:07 a.m. on southbound I-5 south of County Road 95, , according to the California Highway Patrol’s Woodland office.
A preliminary investigation found the driver of a Volvo semi-truck towing a trailer traveled off the freeway and onto the right shoulder, according to officers. The driver tried to return to the roadway by turning left but lost control of the truck, causing it to overturn.
A medical helicopter was called to the scene, according to the CHP’s incident log, and the freeway was temporarily shut down to allow it to land. The driver, who was the only person in the truck, died from injuries at the scene.
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as Jarlath Parkinson, 66, of Jackson, South Carolina. Parkinson was hauling equipment from the tour’s Tuesday night show at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. The truck had been headed to Sacramento, where J. Cole was scheduled to perform Thursday night at Golden 1 Center.

Concert promoter Live Nation announced Thursday afternoon that the Sacramento show had been canceled because of the crew member’s death.
“Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole’s performance at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento tonight, August 27, has been canceled,” Live Nation said in a statement.
Alcohol and drugs were not believed to have contributed to the crash, CHP said, as officers continue to investigate.
