1 dead after car goes down Highway 50 embankment near Twin Bridges

A motorist died after a car plunged about 70 feet down a steep embankment along Highway 50 near 41 Mile Stone Road in El Dorado County early Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

California Highway Patrol dispatchers first received reports of the crash just after 5 a.m., according to CHP’s incident logs.

Cal Fire crews initially were unable to locate the vehicle but found it down the embankment shortly before 7 a.m. The car had rolled over and sustained extensive damage, CHP logs said.

The El Dorado County Coroner’s Office was expected to release the motorist’s identity after family members were notified.
