The Philadelphia Eagles escaped Week 1 with a 24-22 victory over the Washington Commanders, but quarterback Jalen Hurts was hardly celebrating.

After an uneven offensive performance gave the Eagles a narrow NFC East win over Washington, Hurts
Hurts emphasized that urgency cannot become optional as the Eagles attempt to improve as they head into a Week 2 matchup against the 0-1 Tennessee Titans.
“We’re all hungry to improve, continue to push forward in the same direction,” Hurts said. “And obviously, coach is going to have some things that he wants back.
“I’m gonna have some throws that I want back. Gonna have some times where, ‘Hey, we gotta line up quicker, we need to get down, get set and we gotta come back to the huddle and be urgent.'”

Hurts then made his expectations clear.
“I think for us, and I say it all the time, urgency isn’t an option,” Hurts said. “We’ve gotta home tune on that. Not an excuse for me in terms of it being Week 1. We’re pushing for excellence in everything we do.”

After taking a 17-9 lead shortly after halftime, the Eagles struggled on offense during the second half as Washington worked its way back into the game with two touchdowns to Philadelphia’s one in the fourth quarter.
Ultimately, Hurts delivered two decisive plays: first on a third-and-18 situation in which he scrambled for 22 yards, then connecting with Dallas Goedert for a 43-yard touchdown three plays later in the game-winning play of the day.
The quarterback finished 14-of-25 passing for 203 yards and three touchdowns, producing a 122.2 passer rating. Still, Philadelphia needed its defense to stop Washington’s late two-point conversion attempt to preserve the victory.
“Collectively, we’ve got a lot to build on, obviously a lot to correct,” Hurts said, “and I’m excited to get back into the process of becoming the team that we’re supposed to become.”
The Eagles will take their 1-0 record on the road in Week 2 to face the Titans next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
