Elk Grove’s first Whole Foods opened Wednesday, Sept. 16 at The Village shopping center, located at 8100 Elk Grove Blvd.

The 43,000-square-foot grocery store is the community’s first Whole Foods, and according to the company, it is the fourth Whole Foods in the Sacramento area and the 94th in California.
Doors opened at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to shoppers lined up to receive free drinks from local Pachamama Coffee, special Elk Grove-themed Whole Foods tote bags, and a Secret Saver coupon. Regular hours for the store will be 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.
“We have been anxiously anticipating this grand opening,” Elk Grove mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen told The Sacramento Bee, adding that “the community response has been tremendous.”
“I’ve been waiting for a long time for Whole Foods to open—at least, my wife and my daughter have,” said customer John Ortega. Ortega added that, due to family health concerns, his household shops at places that sell “organic things, natural things.”

“Before,” he said, “it was always shopping at different stores. Now we can really just be in one place and handle all our needs.”
Several businesses in The Village have opened since development of the site began in 2024, including Philz Coffee, Chik-fil-A, and Yard House. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, a Barnes & Noble bookstore also had its grand opening in the shopping center.
