After completing its annual maintenance week, SMUD’s Museum of Science and Curiosity reopened Friday, Sept. 18. Part of the reopening Friday the museum’s new Galaxy Cafe.

The new dining option, which will occupy the same spot as the former Curiosity Cafe, “is environmentally friendly and uses a zero-carbon, all-electric kitchen,” Meara Hain, MOSAC’s marketing and communications manager, told The Sacramento Bee.
The new menu features vegetarian and cold-cut sandwiches on housemade rosemary foccacia, teriyaki bowls, pizza, and space-themed drinks such as a Cookie Comet milkshake and Tropical Galaxy smoothie. There’s also a children’s menu, with options such as grilled cheese and chicken tenders.

Attendees of Friday’s ribbon-cutting included Sacramento councilmember Eric Guerra, Sacramento County Supervisor Patrick Kennedy, as well MOSAC’s new executive director, Carlos Gonzalez-Jaime. Gonzalez-Jaime will step into the role on Oct. 1, taking over for interim executive director Daniela Calvitti.
MOSAC is open weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Tuesdays during the school year. The Galaxy Café is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
