As Carrot Top continues to recover from a possible overdose in Las Vegas, his lawyer is staying busy more than 2,500 miles away, in his client’s home state.

The comedian born Scott Thompson in Rockledge, on the Space Coast of Florida, has been hospitalized since Friday for what TMZ reports was a drug overdose. On Monday, his publicist, Jami Schlicher, did not specify what led to the 61-year-old’s hospitalization, just that he was on the mend and breathing on his own.
“Humor has always been such an important part of who Scott is and how he connects with people, and that remains true today as he shares moments of humor with the medical staff caring for him,” Schlicher said in a statement. “Many messages from fans have been shared with Scott, including stories from people about how his comedy helped them through difficult periods in their own lives. Hearing those stories and feeling that support has meant a great deal to him during his recovery.”
Carrot Top’s lawyer Ronnie Bitman believes he knows why his client is going through a mental health crisis. He points to a July lawsuit filed in Broward County by a Hallandale Beach man and former friend.
In the suit, Brian Evans says his relationship with the comic fell apart about three years ago when Thompson sent a video engaging in sexual activity with another younger male. Claiming he was “shocked” by the unsolicited footage, Evans entered into a legal settlement with the prop comic a short time later. Evans’ suit seeks to void the deal on grounds he had “PTSD” at the time and recover damages for emotional harm.

On Sunday, Bitman filed an emergency motion seeking to deactivate Evans’ e‑filing privileges while Carrot Top continues to recover.
“This is now an emergency in the most human sense,” read Bitman’s motion. “A public filing can become national news almost immediately. This has been Evans’ modus operandi in repeatedly extorting Mr. Thompson with the threat of exposing him to ill repute, false allegations, and salacious materials.”
Evans, however, denied all allegations in a statement to TMZ.
“I never threatened, ever, to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement,” the 56- year-old told the outlet. “The video they are discussing, as I made very clear, was deleted a long time ago in accordance with the prior settlement.”

Evans isn’t Carrot Top’s only problem. The “Chairman of the Board” star, who rose to fame doing standup at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, is also being accused of sexual misdeeds by someone else. The 25-year-old Winter Park man’s allegations were contained in a filing submitted as part of Evans’ lawsuit. The Miami Herald does not name alleged victims of sexual abuse.
In the filing, the individual claims he met Thompson through LGBTQ dating app Grindr when he was 19. He claims the “Star Search” alum often plied him with booze and engaged with him sexually when he was too “drunk” to consent. The Central Florida man said he came forward after Evans’ case went public to give him support.
“I want this court to treat me as a victim who is standing with Evans, not as a sealed name the defense can wave away,” the document reads, “so this court would stop being told there is only one man in this fight.”
In a Tuesday hearing, a judge allowed Evans to continue to file motions, but said the case should be kept confidential. Both Evans and the recent accuser are representing themselves in the matter.
