No. 4 San Ramon Valley 49, Foothill 0:San Ramon Valley dominated another opponent as Cole Dawes threw for four touchdowns and more than 200 yards in the first half. Xavier O’Guinn, Dietrick Burks, Owen Power and Thomas Buck caught the TD passes. Power added two rushing touchdowns and finished with more than 100 yards on the ground. Buck capped the scoring with a fourth-quarter touchdown run. SRV’s defense also had a big night, shutting down the run and also applying pressure on the quarterback to record the team’s first shutout of the season. SRV (5-0) has won its five games by an average of 39.4 points. Foothill is 2-3. – Darren Sabedra
No. 6 Archbishop Riordan 28, No. 12 St. Francis 9: Adonyae Brown ran for 223 yards on 23 carries as Riordan (2-2, 1-0) made an early statement in the WCAL race by defeating St. Francis (1-3, 0-1) on the road. Brown scored three TDs and gained the vast majority of the Crusaders’ 252 offensive yards as Riordan turned the Lancers over four times, including three interceptions. Sione Vaihola had two picks, including a second-quarter pick-six. Israel Lawson snagged the other. Luke Mota scored the Lancers’ lone TD with a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. Lucas Vaughn hit a 38-yard field goal for the home team. – Christian Babcock
No. 8 Monte Vista 37, Dublin 14:Justin Grisham, a transfer from Dublin, had a monster game against his former school. He rushed for three touchdowns, had 10 tackles (three for loss) and a sack as Monte Vista improved to 5-0 with a victory on the road. Charles Hawkins also ran for a touchdown, as did quarterback Jimmy Lagios, who threw for 275 yards and rushed for a two-point conversion to help lead Monte Vista. Caden Boscia caught six passes for 175 yards and added seven tackles (two for loss) and a sack. He was on the receiving end of a two-point conversion pass. Dublin fell to 1-4. – Darren Sabedra
No. 10 Valley Christian 7, No. 21 Archbishop Mitty 3: In what played out like an old-school WCAL game, Baylor Stutzmann threw a short touchdown pass to Aaron Noriega with 4:07 left in the third quarter for what were the decisive points in host Valley Christian’s league-opening victory. Mitty took a 3-0 lead when Chase Graff kicked a 31-yard field goal with 2:33 left in the opening quarter. Both defenses forced two turnovers. Valley improved to 3-1, 1-0. Mitty is 2-2, 0-1. – Darren Sabedra
No. 16 El Cerrito 20, No. 13 California 16: El Cerrito, playing at home, built a 17-3 halftime lead and held on for the nonleague win. Michael Boyer caught a touchdown pass from DeJuan Compton Jr. and Joezon Broussard ran for a TD to lead El Cerrito, which also got two field goals from Edson Campos as the Gauchos improved to 3-2. Ryan Robets kicked a field goal, Nicco Kovacs threw a short scoring pass to Andrew Phinney and Jonathan Hamm ran for a TD for California, which fell to 3-2. – Darren Sabedra
No. 15 Liberty 61, Freedom 6: Lions’ senior quarterback Leysen Rodrigues passed for five touchdowns and ran for two more in the Bay Valley Athletic League opener for both schools. Jaxon Binns had three TD receptions as the host Lions improved to 3-2 overall. Tasi Majia and Jaiden Miller had interceptions for Liberty. Camden Camara and Miles Baker had rushing TDs for the Lions, who benefitted from five Freedom turnovers. The Falcons (4-1), who were off to their best start since 2017, will attempt to bounce back at home next Friday against Heritage. Liberty will host Deer Valley, also on Friday. – Mike Lefkow
No. 17 Bishop O’Dowd 41, Menlo-Atherton 6: O’Dowd (4-1) made a dominant statement in its final nonleague game before the start of WACC Foothill play, routing the winless Bears (0-5) in Oakland. Lamar Ellis ran for a TD and caught another, Oc Lehner ran for a score, Niko Williams had a pick-six and Jess Brown caught a TD pass and ran for one. – Christian Babcock
No. 23 Northgate 56, College Park 14:Maximus Cantrell completed 13 of 18 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Broncos (5-0, 2-0) in a Diablo Athletic League Valley Division contest over the visiting Falcons (3-2, 1-1). Bryce Ballard caught six passes for 136 yards and two TDs and Northgate teammate Liam Fruchtenicht got a scoop and score after teammate Bryce Kaiper forced a fumble. College Park had an 80-yard touchdown on the first play of the game nullified by penalty. The Falcons got TD receptions from Ethan Pidkova and Ryan Yin. Northgate, averaging 43.4 points per game, earned its ninth consecutive victory over College Park. – David Kiefer
No. 25 San Mateo 42, Sequoia 31:Roman Toki rushed seven times for 87 yards and a touchdown and threw a 35-yard scoring pass to Luke Dunston for San Mateo (4-1). Lukas Fitzgerald rushed for two touchdowns and threw one to TJ Johnson. Ricky Delgado threw two TD passes to Jackson Tetley and Kelanu Makasini and Luke Ostrander threw one to Colin Haag for Sequoia (2-3). Carlos Curup ran for a touchdown and Makasini added a field goal. San Mateo led 28-17 at halftime and the teams scored two TDs apiece in the second half. – Glenn Reeves
EAST BAY
Newark Memorial 21, Washington-Fremont 14:Newark Memorial (2-2, 2-1) stunned previously undefeated Washington (3-1, 0-1) at Fremont’s Tak Fudenna Stadium in a West Alameda County Athletic League Shoreline Division game. A blocked punt for a touchdown at the end of the first half swung the momentum for Newark Memorial and Solo Toki and Jalen Robinson kept the pressure on with their second-half rushing games. — David Kiefer
Campolindo 38, James Logan 14: The Cougars won their second straight after opening the season with three defeats. Cayden Mulliken threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns, completing 14 of 18 attempts. Campolindo led 14-6 at the half, then blew it open in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 17-0. Rai Marchetti caught two of Mulliken’s TD tosses. Ryan Erickson had a 35-yard TD catch in the third quarter, and Colton Willis caught a screen pass, which he took 65 yards to the house. James Logan fell to 0-5 but has played a brutal schedule. Three of the Colts’ losses were against California, Pittsburg and Monte Vista, all ranked 13th or higher in this week’s Bay Area News Group’s Top 25. – Mike Lefkow
Deer Valley 14, Granada 13: The Wolverines stopped a 2-point conversion attempt with just over a minute left to improve to 4-0. Deer Valley scored what proved to be the winning touchdown less than a minute earlier when freshman quarterback Suli Malu snuck into the end zone from the 1. Adam Reyes kicked the point after to make it 14-7. Granada (2-3) came right back, scoring on a 4th-and-7 run by Skyler Stuart to bring the home team to within one point. The Matadors elected to go for two, but the attempt failed. Malu, who is the son of Deer Valley coach Marcus Malu, passed to Ikennaya Iwuji for the Wolverines’ first score. The game was tied 7-7 at the half. – Mike Lefkow

Dougherty Valley 21, Emerald 14: Visiting Dougherty Valley jumped out to a two-touchdown halftime lead thanks to a Javi Estrada touchdown pass to Mikey Wong and a 60-yard catch-and-run by senior running back Iain Marriott. Emerald, playing in its first varsity season, showed resolve by tying the game thanks to touchdown runs by Xayvier Hung and senior Nathan Uchiyama. Ved Navaneet’s interception set up the second Emerald touchdown. But on Dougherty’s first play from scrimmage after Uchiyama’s score, Arman Ayubi rushed for a long DV touchdown to provide the winning points. Dougherty (4-1) plays host to Albany on Friday, while Emerald (1-3) welcomes Antioch to begin Bay Valley Athletic League play. – Joseph Dycus
Moreau Catholic 31, Piedmont 17:Zion Dysart scored three touchdowns and Elijah Dysart had one to lead Moreau to a nonleague victory at home over Piedmont. Leading 7-3 at halftime, Moreau scored 17 points in the third quarter to break the game open. Juan Navarro kicked a 30-yard field goal and Taopa Fehoko and Judas Griffin stood out defensively for Moreau, which improved to 4-1. Vaha Mafi scored on a 60-yard run and Cyrus Emanuelson threw a TD pass to Mason Gray for Piedmont (1-4), which also got a nice game from wide receiver Diego Hurwitz. – Darren Sabedra
SOUTH BAY/PENINSULA
Christopher 44, Piedmont Hills 0: In both teams’ final non-league game of the year, Christopher (3-2) looked ready to go for the start of BVAL Mt. Hamilton South play next week. Adrian Leon ran for two TDs, Dylan Robinson threw for one and ran for another and Naol Benti caught a TD pass to help lead the way. Casen Pauneto returned a kickoff 65 yards for a score and Luke Varela had a pick-six to add to the scoring. Piedmont Hills dropped to 0-5. – Christian Babcock
Gunn 21, Saratoga 20:Backup quarterback Nathaniel Taylor connected with Gabe Gonzalez on an 18-yard touchdown pass with around seven minutes left as Gunn (2-1, 1-0) erased a 20-14 deficit and won the Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division opener. Gonzalez also scored Gunn’s first touchdown on a 13-yard run and “made great plays on defense,” coach Dethrick Slocum said. Jake Wood scored on a short punt return to put the Titans up 14-7 in the second quarter. Anson Hulme scored three touchdowns for Saratoga (3-1, 0-1), on runs of 4, 34 and 41 yards. His 68-yard pass to Akiva Goldwasser set up one TD. The other two were set up on a fumble recovery by Noah Nguyen and an interception by Nick Wilhelm. — Glenn Reeves
Hillsdale 48, Jefferson 26:Oliver Ashfield scored five touchdowns, three on the ground and two on passes from Brandon Kee to lead Hillsdale (4-1), Kee also threw a TD pass to Jacob Kuboyama. Sean Malan gained 177 yards on 19 carries and one score. Cody Notte and Garrett Batista-Jaico made fumble recoveries. Billy Garcia threw three touchdown passes for Jefferson (2-3), two to Devin Sngoeun. Jayden Tsang carried 10 times for 138 yards. – Glenn Reeves
Live Oak 54, Branham 15: Live Oak (3-2) rushed for 425 yards and had 559 yards of total offense in the one-sided win. Gage Jones rushed for 135 yards on 19 carries and scored four touchdowns. Josiah Delgado added 125 yards on just seven carries and two TDs. QB Justin Svoboda Jr. picked up 83 yards on five carries and was 7 of 14 passing for 134 yards and a touchdown thrown to Praise God Ofobuike, who caught four passes for 115 yards. The Acorns led 27-7 after one quarter and 41-7 at halftime. Branham is 0-5. — Glenn Reeves
Mountain View 55, Sacred Heart Prep 48: An offensive slugfest of the highest order ended with a Mountain View victory largely thanks to senior running back Dom Kristof. “Don’t know the totals, but (he) had a huge night,” Mountain View coach Rick Esparza said. Mountain View is 3-1. Forty-two points were scored in the fourth quarter. JP Durrett completed 12 of 24 passes for 303 yards and four TDs to lead SHP (2-3). Johnny Rollins ran for 106 yards on 15 carries with two TDs. David Sala caught five passes for 121 yards and a score. Nate Hunt had three receptions for 122 and a TD. Lincoln Gerstner had 11 tackles. Marquis Black added seven tackles and a sack. – Christian Babcock
Oak Grove 39, Gunderson 0:Noah Vierra scored five touchdowns as Oak Grove (3-2, 1-0) won its Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division opener. Fullback Jordan Montellano added a two-point conversion. Giovanni Vasquez kicked four PATs and a field goal. Oak Grove led 32-0 at halftime and a running clock was used in the second half. Middle linebacker Adrian Stone stood out on defense and Legacy Burch had an interception as the Eagles recorded their second shutout in a row. — Glenn Reeves
Palo Alto 45, The King’s Academy 42:A Wyatt Saxon field goal was ultimately the difference in the Vikings’ nonleague victory Thursday. TKA closed to within the final score on Aaron’s Duncan’s TD reception with 35 seconds left and attempted an onside kick that Palo Alto recovered to run out the clock. Duncan, playing in his first game since breaking his collarbone in June, had six catches for 106 yards and scored four touchdowns. Ricky Gutierrez completed 20 of 25 passes for 329 yards and five TDs for King’s (1-3). For Palo Alto (4-1), WR/CB Clement Romanski returned a kickoff 73 yards, caught three passes for 46 and scored three TDs. RB/DE Kaleb Osotonu rushed for 133 yards on 23 carries and scored two TDs in beating a team from the Peninsula Athletic League’s top-tier, the Bay. – David Kiefer
Pioneer 14, Silver Creek 0: The Mustangs (2-3) prevailed in a low-scoring non-league matchup thanks to a rushing TD from QB Lemani Roberts and another from Chris Orozco. Roberts finished 8 of 14 for 139 yards and an interception to go along with the rushing TD. Adrian Ochoa caught five passes for 99 yards and had five tackles, two pass breakups and two picks. Jordan Lolohea had 12 tackles and a pass deflection. Connor Christensen contributed two catches for 37 yards, four carries for 35 yards, seven tackles and a pass breakup. Adam Kuennen had 10 tackles. Dominic Beltran added 57 rushing yards to lead Silver Creek (2-3). Jesse Morales had seven tackles, two for loss. – Christian Babcock
Willow Glen 28, Leigh 13: The Rams (5-0) remained unbeaten with another impressive win over a fellow South Bay school at home. Caleb Woosley ran for a TD as Willow Glen led 20-7 at the half and expanded the lead in the third quarter to pull away. For Leigh (1-4), Lochren Sullivan scored a 78-yard rushing touchdown and Ben McLennan ran in a 16-yard score. – Christian Babcock
Woodside 28, Wilcox 26: Quarterback Charlie Dalrymple returned after missing the first four games of the season and threw for three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats past Wilcox. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior connected with Kolby Nelson, Grady Furtado and Henry Schwab to help Woodside improve to 3-2. Nelson and Furtado also played key roles on defense. Nelson intercepted a pass in the red zone to stop a Wilcox drive, and Furtado blocked a punt that set up a second quarter TD that gave the host Wildcats a 21-6 lead at intermission. Wilcox (1-3), which has lost its last two games by a total of nine points, nearly came all the way back in the second half. The Chargers were led on offense by Elijah Vallejo, who had two rushing touchdowns. – Mike Lefkow
