Women’s tennis star Marketa Vondrousova is all smiles this September despite being suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, received a four-year suspension for refusing to submit a drug test in December 2025. She later revealed that she refused to take the test because suffered an “acute stress reaction” while being visited by a doping control official.
“The recent doping control incident happened because I reached a breaking point after months of physical and mental stress. For a long time, I’ve been dealing with injury, constant pressure, and ongoing sleep issues that left me feeling exhausted and fragile. It slowly wore me down more than I probably realized at the time,” Vondrousova said.
“On top of that, years of hateful messages and threats have affected how safe I feel in my own space. When someone rang my door late at night without properly identifying themselves or following protocol—I reacted like a person who felt scared. In that moment, it was about feeling safe, not about avoiding anything. Experts confirmed I suffered an Acute Stress Reaction (F43.O) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (F41.1). In that moment, fear clouded my judgment and I just couldn’t process the situation rationally. After what happened to Petra (Kvitová), we don’t take strangers at our door lightly.”
Since Vondrousova won’t be competing in a WTA Tour event anytime soon, she has decided to take a trip to Indonesia. She shared a few vacation photos on Instagram this weekend.

Fans are definitely missing Vondrousova this season.
When healthy, Vondrousova is a joy to watch on the tennis court. The 27-year-old reached No. 6 in the rankings during the 2023 season.
Unfortunately, Vondrousova isn’t sure when fans will see her again on the WTA Tour.
“Today, I honestly do not know what comes next,” she said. “For the first time in my life, I do not have a plan. For the first time in my life, I do not know where the road ahead leads.”
