The Philadelphia Eagles travel to face the Chicago Bears in a prime-time Monday Night Football matchup, but it remains up in the air which quarterback they will play, and the answer becomes more complicated, with Tyson Bagent surprisingly returning to practice today.

Chicago’s QB1 Is Out
When the schedule was announced, it looked like the Eagles would be facing Caleb Williams, the number one draft pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Last season, Williams and the Bears routed the Eagles 24-15. However, Williams suffered a hamstring injury that has ruled him out.
With Williams, the Bears matched the second-most games won by the franchise since 2010. It appeared they had picked up right where they left off, scoring a league-high 59 points in their Week 1 opener against the Carolina Panthers, but that changes for the moment with Williams sidelined.
Chicago’s QB Picture Remains Murky
Chicago’s key backup is Tyson Bagent, who has four career starts, all in 2023. Since Williams was drafted, Bagent has been the QB2, appearing in nine additional games. However, when he stepped in to finish the game against the Vikings, he took a hit that placed him in the concussion protocol.

All signs were pointing to veteran Case Keenum starting Monday against the Eagles, which would be his first start since 2023. Keenum has 66 regular-season starts under his belt, but the Eagles are 2-0 against teams he has started for, including the memorable 38-7 blowout of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFC Championship Game. That postseason ultimately ended with the Eagles hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
Although Bagent has returned to practice, he has not officially cleared concussion protocol and remains uncertain to face the Eagles, meaning Philadelphia could still see Keenum under center.
The Eagles Must Stop the Run
In last year’s matchup with Chicago, the Eagles lost not due to a successful passing attack, but due to a dominant ground game. The Bears gashed Philadelphia’s defense, with former Eagle D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai both rushing for over 120 yards. With both backs still on the roster and Ben Johnson calling plays, Monday will not be a cakewalk for Philadelphia, no matter who suits up at quarterback.
