The Los Angeles Chargers have yet to win a game in the calendar year of 2026. They have lost their first three games of the new NFL season, and they have a six-game losing streak going back to last season. Their last victory came on Dec. 21, 2025, when they downed the Dallas Cowboys 34-17.

They’re facing an absolute gauntlet of a stretch between now and Week 10 that will have them visiting the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. Even after Week 10, their schedule won’t get that much easier.
Since 1990, only five of 171 NFL teams that have started a season 0-3 have made the playoffs. Even under the league’s current expanded playoff format, which started in 2020, only one of 25 teams has reached the postseason after starting 0-3, as Kris Rhim of ESPN pointed out.
This all places a humongous amount of pressure on the Chargers to somehow outlast the world champions in Week 4. If they don’t, they will have to pull off a miraculous turnaround they once staged a long time ago.
Seattle will be a stiff test
While the Seahawks fell short 33-31 in Week 3 to the Washington Commanders, and while they lost reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III during the offseason to the Kansas City Chiefs, they’re still a defensive juggernaut and one of the favorites to win it all this season.
They rank third in points allowed and first in total yards given up. In their first two games of the season, they held the New England Patriots to 10 points and the Arizona Cardinals to seven points.

On the other side of the football, starting quarterback Sam Darnold is back after the glute injury he suffered in Week 1, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is leading everyone in receiving yards and touchdown receptions.
That is a tremendous number of obstacles for the Chargers and their sputtering, no-good offense to overcome.
Assuming they fall to Seattle, the Chargers will have to engineer the type of magic they pulled off in 1992. That year, they started 0-4, and their offense was absolutely awful in those first four games. But they went 11-1 the rest of the way, giving them a playoff berth. They ended up getting past the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round before being shut out 31-0 in the divisional round by the Miami Dolphins.
Two years later, with Natrone Means developing into a very productive running back and a young linebacker named Junior Seau developing into a legend, the Bolts achieved their lone trip to the Super Bowl.
There is absolutely nothing to suggest that this year’s edition of the Bolts will go on a run that will rival the one they put together in 1992, especially given how brutal their schedule is. But they do have the talent to at least be somewhat competitive the rest of the way.
