The Carolina Panthers have to be disappointed this weekend.
The team decided to place wide receiver Xavier Legette on injured reserve. Legette has been dealing with a knee injury and missed Week 3. The receiver was slated to miss Week 3 too, but nobody thought the injury was going to be this serious.

Now, Legette will have to miss at least four more games before he can return. The Panthers have had plenty of injuries on both sides of the ball, so this is just another one to add to the list.
The worst part is that Legette actually had some nice moments this year, and it looked like he could be taking a step forward. That could theoretically still happen, but Legette is going to be behind the 8-ball once again after missing several weeks.
That begs the question: Have we seen the last of Legette in a Panthers uniform?
Legette Might Have Played His Final Snap with Panthers
Legette came into this season with a ton of pressure. As a former first-round pick, the receiver massively underperformed over his first two seasons. The thinking was that 2026 would be Legette’s final shot to prove himself, at least in Carolina.

With a good season, Legette could settle into a complementary role and at least be a solid rotational piece on offense. With a bad season, the Panthers could just cut bait and move on.
The one thing that could help Legette is that the Panthers don’t have much depth at receiver. Later in the season, when Legette gets healthy, the Panthers will probably still need some help. It’s possible that Legette could be activated later and end up helping the team out during the stretch run.
With the way the injuries have gone for the Panthers this season, though, it won’t be surprising if Legette doesn’t even come back. We don’t know exactly how bad the injury is, but it’s not encouraging that he’s going on injured reserve in the first place. It seems like a real possibility that Legette could be shut down for the season and then moved in the offseason.
