WR CeeDee Lamb’s Career Day Powers Cowboys in Battle of Texas

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb delivered the defining performance of the season’s first month Sunday, catching a career-high 17 passes for 189 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in a 34-30 comeback win over the Houston Texans. The production gave Dallas more than a needed road win: It showed how difficult the offense can become when Lamb takes over a game and defenses must still account for George Pickens.

Lamb caught six passes for 49 yards before halftime, then erupted for 11 catches and 140 yards after the break. His 12-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Dak Prescott with 40 seconds remaining moved the Cowboys to 2-2.

Locked On Cowboys host Marcus Mosher said Lamb’s performance carried extra weight because it came against a Houston secondary that features All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. Mosher noted that Lamb drew 21 targets, evidence that Prescott repeatedly went back to his top option even as the Texans tried to adjust their coverage.

Locked On Cowboys co-host Landon McCool connected the second-half breakout to Dallas establishing its ground attack early. The Cowboys scored three rushing touchdowns, and McCool said that threat forced Houston to devote resources closer to the line of scrimmage, creating tougher choices between Lamb and Pickens outside.

Lamb does not need to put up monster numbers for the offense to benefit from his game; the more opponents feel compelled to shade coverage toward him, the more favorable the matchups become for Pickens and Prescott’s other options.

Mosher also pointed to an unfinished part of the offensive equation. Dallas went three-and-out while leading 27-23 with about eight minutes left, leaving its defense exposed in another tight finish. Prescott and Lamb erased that mistake on the final drive, but turning those late possessions into first downs and points would make an explosive offense less dependent on a last-minute answer.

Cowboys News and Notes

– Prescott engineered four touchdown drives in the second half. Mosher said the quarterback is playing at an exceptionally high level despite the offense carrying the burden in close games.

– Left tackle Tyler Guyton faced a major test against Houston edge rushers Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. McCool cited preliminary SumerSports tracking that credited Guyton with zero pressures allowed over 53 pass-blocking snaps.

– The defense forced four three-and-outs on Houston’s seven meaningful drives, according to Mosher, but still allowed 30 points and explosive gains. McCool identified nickel coverage as a continuing issue, while the field goal protection unit also allowed a blocked kick.
