Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever were recently eliminated from the 2026 WNBA Playoffs, losing to the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces and their four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson in three games. Despite the playoff exit, Indiana had a successful year, finishing tied with the Washington Mystics at 28-16 to earn a No. 6 seed in the playoffs.

Alongside Clark is All-Star forward Aliyah Boston and All-WNBA First Team guard Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell had the best year of her career, with the 5-foot-8 guard finishing the season second in scoring (24.7 points per game). The 30-year-old made a league-leading 45.0% of her shots from behind the arc while finishing third with 3.1 made 3-pointers per game.
With 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year Stephanie White leading the Fever, the future appears bright in Indiana, with the caveat being the unrestricted free agency of MVP candidate Mitchell. The 30-year-old guard is able to sign with any team she desires, putting her future alongside Clark in jeopardy. On Thursday, Clark made her feelings publicly known on the situation.
In a press conference statement, Clark put pressure on the Fever organization and did not mince words in requesting that they re-sign Mitchell in free agency. Clark spoke on the importance of bringing her back and opened up about not only her on-court importance, but also the chemistry she brings to the locker room.
“As far as Kelsey and our future with the organization,” Clark said in the video. “I think she knows how much I love her, and we’ve talked since the season has ended. There’s no one I’d want to share the backcourt with other than her. I think we had the best season of any backcourt in the WNBA in league history, what we were able to do…”

“I know this organization. We’re gonna work our butt off to get her back,” Clark continued. “We’re gonna recruit her as hard as we can, every player that is signed to a contract is going to recruit her as hard as we can. We need her, and we love her. But more than anything, Kelsey’s a really great person. And I love getting to be in the locker room with her… she’s a good soul.”
