Ravens Star Lamar Jackson Remains Out Of Practice Thursday

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson hasn’t taken a snap since the first half of Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans and time is starting to run out on his Week 5 preparations.

After missing practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury he suffered against the Titans, Jackson was again not practicing on Thursday. Linebacker Trey Hendrickson, cornerback Marlon Humphrey and newly-minted center Cam Jurgens also missed practice due to various injuries.

Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has kept a positive attitude about Jackson’s chances of playing the Atlanta Falcons this weekend, pointing out yesterday that there’s “a lot of time” until the game. Minter has also stated that Jackson doesn’t exactly need to practice to be ready for a game.

“It’s Wednesday. There’s a lot of time between now and Sunday,” Minter said on Wednesday. “To Lamar’s credit, he’s getting a lot of treatment and doing things. There’ll be a point later in the week where we’ll kinda figure out where it’s at… When he’s ready to play, he’ll be ready to play.”

Even so, it’s very rare for a player to miss an entire week of practice and wind up playing, let alone play at a high level. If Jackson doesn’t get any practice reps on Friday, he’ll probably be listed as questionable or even doubtful to play on Sunday.

Contingency Plan

If Jackson isn’t good to go against the Falcons this Sunday, the team will turn to Tyler “Snoop” Huntley. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will serve as the backup in that game.

Huntley only passed the ball nine times after coming on for Jackson against the Titans this past week. But he’s proven to be a reliable game manager in recent years.

Last season Huntley completed 52 of 67 passes across five games for 426 yards and two touchdowns. He went 2-0 as a starter, leading the Ravens to multi-score wins over the Browns and Packers.

But as the Atlanta Falcons showed this past Monday, a team is going to need just a little more firepower to take them down. They’ve won their last two games over the Packers and Saints by a combined margin of 80-38 and have had over 400 yards of offense in both wins.

If Jackson can’t make it, the Ravens are either going to need their run game to carry an even bigger load than usual or ask Huntley to dig deep and really deliver some big throws on Sunday.
