Though some of the Sacramento area’s versions of the traditional Bavarian festival have already come and gone, other signature celebrations in the region are still ahead.

Sacramento’s biggest Oktoberfest event, at the area’s German community center, is coming up this weekend, alongside a brand-new celebration at Cal Expo.

In Placer County, one of the area’s Rotary Clubs is hosting its annual Oktoberfest fundraiser with a traditional German dinner and cultural showcase in mid-October.

Here’s what to know if you’re hoping to don your dirndl and sip on steins of German ale this Oktoberfest.

Sacramento 57th Annual Oktoberfest

Location: Turn Verein, 3349 J St., Sacramento

Dates and times: 6 p.m. to midnight Friday; 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

The longest-running Oktoberfest in the capital city is returning for its 57th year celebrating Bavaria’s brewing traditions.

At Turn Verein, the area’s German community center, revelers will have the opportunity to watch traditional dancing, listen to folk and polka bands and of course, drink steins of authentic German ale alongside classic Bavarian fare.

Cultural festivities will be ongoing inside the center, in the main festival hall. In the upstairs area, local band AKAlive will play dancing hits. The community center’s outdoor courtyards will hold the main event: A traditional biergarten with Oktoberfest brews, wine and German food.

Turn Verein’s Oktoberfest is a family-friendly celebration, and there will be activities for children available while adults enjoy the drinks.

Tickets are available online and in person on event day. Admission at the door costs $30 per person aged 13 and up, but advance purchases on Eventbrite cost only $25. Tickets for children aged 12 and under cost $5 per person.

Celebrants arriving by car can park at the nearby Miwok Middle School. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for “preferred” seating spaces in the venue.

The exposition center’s The Cove venue will hold the festival, which is slated to include traditional German and modern music, Oktoberfest food and beer, food trucks, on-stage competitions, lawn games and other family-friendly activities. Exclusive Oktoberfest merchandise, including a traditional Tyrolean hat and lederhosen, will be sold at this weekend’s inaugural event.

The food menu will include schnitzel, bratwurst, roasted chicken, a sausage sampler plate and more, according to a social media post by Cal Expo. On tap will be a selection of limited-release brews by Northern California brewers Urban Roots, Solid Ground and FiftyFifty, as well as imported Oktoberfest beers by Rothaus, a top brewery from Grafenhausen, Germany.

Tickets are for sale online and at the door for $12 per person plus fees. Parking at Cal Expo costs $10.

Gold Country Rotary Oktoberfest

Location: Auburn Regional Disc Golf Park Community Buildings, 3770 Richardson Drive, Auburn

Date and hours: 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17

The Auburn area’s Rotary Club is celebrating its 37th annual Oktoberfest fundraiser this year at a new venue.

Dinner — featuring pork chops, sauerkraut and other German classics — will be served in the regional park’s gymnasium. Beer and additional beverages will be available for purchase. The park’s nearby Lakeside Room will host a wine tasting area and other “surprise treats and displays,” according to the event listing.

Sacramento’s own STV Alpentänzer Schuhplattler Band will perform traditional music and dances from Bavaria and Austria during the celebration.

A silent auction with a variety of prizes will raise funds to support the Rotary Club’s projects in supporting local youth, survivors of domestic violence, veterans transitioning into civilian life and other community members.

Those dolled up in dirndls and lederhosen can participate in the Oktoberfest celebration’s annual Bavarian costume contest to be named king and queen of the event. Attendees with impressive arm muscles can compete to be named the strongest man or woman at the event in the traditional stein-holding competition.

Tickets for the Oktoberfest fundraiser and dinner cost $50 per person plus online fees for attendees aged 14 and up. Youth aged 13 and under can attend for $15 per person.
