In 2023, Sacramento became one of 16 American cities and states to declare Black Brewers Day an officially recognized commemorative event. This year, on Saturday, Oct. 10, Oak Park Brewing Co. will host a National Black Brewers Day celebration, which will include tastings of beers from Black-owned breweries across the country.
The nation’s first Black-owned beer company was established on Oct. 10, 1970 with Peoples Brewing of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Oak Park Brewing’s event “celebrates the culture, creativity and contributions of Black brewers who continue to shape the craft beverage industry,” said Becca Scott, creative director at Oak Park Brewing Co. in a statement.
Wine and local beers are also on the menu, with many local beverage-makers, such as Acheson Wine Company, Urban Roots, and Bike Dog Brewing offering unlimited tastings.

The event will also feature a rib cook-off, live music, and line dancing.
The hours of the celebration are 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and tickets are $45. Oak Park Brewing Co. is located at 3514 Broadway in Sacramento.
