Colin Kaepernick Still Waking Up At 4:30 A.M. Every Day For NFL Training

Colin Kaepernick isn’t giving up.

The 38-year-old former NFL quarterback last played in the league in 2016. He began kneeling for the national anthem that season. Kaepernick ended up getting released by the 49ers following the season and he never landed another contract.

Kaepernick says that he has no regrets.

“Thinking about whether or not it’s worth it: if even one life was saved, one life was advanced, it’ll be worth it every day of the week,” Kaepernick said, commenting on his commitment to social justice.

He added: “I think that’s incredibly important as we think about our future. We have to be able to do whatever it takes to make sure that we’re advancing our communities, advancing our students, and making sure that we are setting each other up for success in the future.”

Kaepernick maintains that he would still like to play in the NFL.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback told Men’s Health that he is still getting up at 4:30 in the morning, Monday through Friday, working out so he can stay ready. He’s been doing it for 10 years.

“Whatever comes next, I remain focused on doing everything within my control to stay ready,” he said.

It’s a claim that Kaepernick has made a lot over the past 10 years or so. He’s doubling down on it now.

Kaepernick, who lives in the New York City area, is shouting out his trainer, too.

“Let me take a moment to honor my trainer and brother, Josh Hidalgo. For years, @hidalgoj8 has remained committed to training me, turning down opportunities and ignoring those who told him his career would be better served working with other athletes. His loyalty and belief in me have never wavered. I appreciate you, Josh!” he said.

There’s little to no chance, at this point, that an NFL team will express interest in signing him 10 years after his final snap.

But the former NFL quarterback continues to make it clear: He’s still interested in playing in the league again.
