Kellen Moore’s Offense Went Ice Cold Again as the Saints Sank to 1-4

The New Orleans Saints and head coach Kellen Moore have a real problem on their hands, and it is not hiding anymore. New Orleans managed just 142 total yards in a 23-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, and an offense built around Moore’s reputation looked lost for the fourth time in five weeks.

Tyler Shough threw for 96 yards with two interceptions, and the Saints held the ball for barely 20 minutes while Minnesota’s offense, led by Kyler Murray, picked New Orleans apart for 364 total yards. Running back Aaron Jones ran for 113 yards and a touchdown, and Justin Jefferson added six catches for 79 yards and a score.

Why New Orleans can’t find its footing

Moore’s offense is out of excuses. The Saints had only one scoring drive of real length all afternoon, and star receiver Chris Olave was held to four catches for 46 yards by a defense that dared New Orleans to put together anything sustained.

Shough’s two interceptions did not help, but the deeper issue is a unit that could not control the game on its own terms. New Orleans held the ball for just 20 minutes and 23 seconds, nearly 20 minutes less than Minnesota, which improved to 5-0 and is the only unbeaten team left in the NFC.

What comes next for New Orleans

The Saints get back to work this week looking for anything that resembles rhythm on offense. Moore built his name as a play-caller in Dallas and Philadelphia, but New Orleans needs him to find answers fast, before 1-4 turns into something harder to climb out of.
