The rivalry between Johnson and LaFleur has been documented since the former took over as Chicago’s head coach in January 2025.
At his introductory press conference, Johnson said he had enjoyed beating LaFleur twice a year while with Detroit. LaFleur later called the comments interesting, noting he didn’t know Johnson personally.
On Sunday, the two met again, with Green Bay welcoming Chicago to Lambeau Field for a Week 5 rivalry showdown.
The Packers came out on top, dominating the Bears 31-7 to improve to 3-2 on the season. Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love completed 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team’s offense.
One of the most intriguing postgame storylines centered on the handshake between Johnson and LaFleur, which sparked a lot of reactions on social media.
NFL on ESPN posted a video of the moment on X, and it has since gone viral. As of this writing, the clip has amassed close to 600,000 views.

The two coaches shared a curt handshake, and it doesn’t appear like they exchanged words. The fans on social media, however, had a lot to say about the postgame moment.
“that handshake had more tension than a thanksgiving dinner,” a user said.
“Eye contact and firm handshake, that’s how it’s done,” a fan wrote.
“they hate each other still, as they should 😊,” another user added.
“Matt looked like he enjoyed the hell out of that even though we couldn’t see his smirk,” a fan replied to the post.
“Little brother got schooled on how to be a man,” one user commented.
“Life comes at you fast Ben,” a supporter proclaimed.
Green Bay will look to build on this win as they welcome the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday for a matchup at Lambeau Field. Meanwhile, the Bears face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.
