What Happens When Shohei Ohtani Meets a Bob Ross Painting? This Wild $4,000 Trading Card

Shohei Ohtani has painted a clear picture of being one of the transcendent superstars in Major League Baseball. Since crossing over from Nippon Professional Baseball, he has won two World Series championships and four Most Valuable Player awards.

He also has six MLB All-Star and six All-MLB First Team selections. The four-time Silver Slugger awardee has also led the league in home runs twice and the National League in RBIs once.

But have you imagined what a painting-like trading card of him would look like? You don’t have to, because Topps has created a Bob Ross-inspired collectible featuring “Shotime.”

This trading card is from Topps’ 2023 Joy of Baseball collaboration with the estate of Bob Ross. It still shows him wearing a Los Angeles Angels uniform because it was produced during his final year with the American League franchise.

Card Purchaser on X revealed that a PSA 10 version of this Ohtani card was sold on eBay for $4,000.

Rarity might have driven the price up because, the year after this card was produced, Shohei Ohtani signed a ten-year, $700 million contract with the cross-town Los Angeles Dodgers.

Likewise, it’s a must-have collectible for baseball fans who also appreciate art. The artistic feel of this trading card has collectors coveting this masterpiece. Finally, you won’t see any other collectible in which Ohtani is sporting Ross’ signature Afro, making it more appealing.

But as beautiful as this trading card of his is, Ohtani has delivered a forgettable performance in the first two games of the National League Championship Series.

The Milwaukee Brewers have had Ohtani’s number in Games 1 and 2. Their superb pitching has limited him to one hit and three strikeouts in seven at-bats. He did score a run in Game 1, but it was not enough to carry the team to victory.

Ohtani and the Dodgers will feel more joy if they can pull off Game 3, which happens on October 14 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
