A Philadelphia Eagles legend has Jalen Hurts’ back.
Former Eagles star quarterback Donovan McNabb doesn’t think that criticism should be directed at Hurts following Philadelphia’s 19-17 Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which featured the Eagles losing on a last-second field goal after a special teams gaffe.

Donovan McNabb Says Jalen Hurts Had Eagles in Position to Beat Jaguars
During an appearance on Philadelphia radio, McNabb explained his stance. He emphasized that when Hurts and the offense left the field with eight seconds remaining in the game, the Eagles had the lead. So in other words, Jalen did his job. Ultimately it was a combination of coaching and a poor play on special teams that snatched victory away from Philly.
“It was a great drive orchestrated by our quarterback, Jalen. Jalen put us in position[to win]. I just think for our last drive, Jalen put us in position to win the game, hands down,” McNabb said.
“No matter [what] else, whatever else they want to nitpick with the eight seconds left on the clock, and I’m just going to go from a former player and now from just kind of an analyst standpoint, where I did everything I needed for us to do to win the game. We kicked the field goal, we were up.”

It’s tough to disagree with McNabb here. Hurts didn’t have the best game against Jacksonville, but he led what should have been a game-winning drive in the closing minutes, despite the fact that the Eagles were without their top running back, top receiver and key members of the offensive line.
Could Hurts have played better? Probably, but it’s not his fault that the Eagles lost a game that they were poised to win when he left the field.
