Chargers CB Donte Jackson Is Linked to AFC Contender Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

Many feel big changes are coming to the Los Angeles Chargers rather soon, whether they start ahead of the NFL’s Nov. 10 trade deadline or as soon as this season ends for them.

The season has quickly turned into an unmitigated disaster for them. Their 22-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday dropped them to 0-6, and even the most cynical Chargers fans — and plenty of them are cynical about their team — couldn’t have seen this coming.

The preseason hype, hope and excitement surrounding the team now seem as old as a grainy MTV music video from 1982. The focus on what the franchise needs to do to give itself a chance of returning to respectability next season has already begun, and multiple key players, including cornerback Donte Jackson, have been pegged as trade candidates.

Where could Jackson be shipped to?

In his latest “NFL trade block big board” article for Bleacher Report a couple of days ago, Kristopher Knox named Jackson as one of his top-10 trade candidates.

“The Los Angeles Chargers appear to be going nowhere this season after a 0-5 start and numerous injuries across the roster,” Knox wrote. “Jackson, meanwhile, plays an in-demand position and is set to be a free agent in 2027—trading him would save L.A. $6 million in 2026 cap space.

“Jackson started 15 games for the Chargers last season and allowed an opposing passer rating of only 56.8 in coverage. Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have dealt Joey Porter Jr., Jackson should be a top option for cornerback-needy teams.”

Knox mentioned the Buffalo Bills, who are always Super Bowl contenders, as a potential suitor, and he projected Jackson’s trade value to be a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.

Jackson currently has a hamstring injury and didn’t play versus Patrick Mahomes and crew. But the nine-year veteran has proven himself, even though he hasn’t made a Pro Bowl.

He endured six long seasons with the Carolina Panthers before making his way to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2024 campaign and making his first appearance in the NFL playoffs. The Chargers snagged him in March 2025, and last season, he posted four interceptions and a career-high 12 passes defended.

He has only two passes defended through four games thus far this year. But Jackson could help a Buffalo team that, despite a 5-1 record, has been performing poorly on defense and badly needs help in defending against the pass.
