Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 116-104 in their season opener at Frost Bank Center on Tuesday. Wembanyama struggled offensively in the contest, recording only 12 points, 10 of which came at the free-throw line.

Wembanyama shot 1-of-13 from the field, although he contributed in other ways, recording 13 rebounds, three assists, one steal and six blocks.
Making the night even more forgettable for the French big man, he was assessed a technical foul early in the second quarter following a scuffle with multiple players.
The altercation started after De’Aaron Fox slammed Chet Holmgren to the ground with 9:21 remaining in the quarter. The referees quickly stopped the play, but things heated up further when Wembanyama and several Thunder players got into a shoving match.
Video replays of the incident showed Wembanyama exchanging words with the Thunder’s Jalen Williams, Jaylin Williams and Kenrich Williams. All four players received technical fouls for their roles in the scuffle, while Fox was hit with a Flagrant 1 for his foul on Holmgren.

Unfortunately for Wembanyama, every technical foul in the NBA comes with a fine. According to the league’s rules, the first five techs each carry a $2,000 fine.
The fine increases to $3,000 each for the sixth through 10th technical fouls, and $4,000 each for the 11th through 15th techs. Once a player reaches 16 technical fouls, they get a $5,000 fine and a one-game suspension.
The other Thunder players who received a technical foul in the scuffle will also be subject to the same penalties.
