Giants’ Top-5 Pass Defense Meets Stroud, Harrison and a Texans Offense on the Rise

The New York Giants saw Marvin Harrison Jr. just three weeks ago, when he caught his only touchdown of the season for Arizona in a 36-24 Giants win.

Harrison, Nico Collins, C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans offense are rolling into their meeting with the Giants on Sunday at NRG Stadium.

The Texans are averaging 30 points per game and 377.5 yards over their modest two-game win streak, which included a 34-31 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in London. The Giants defense will have its work cut out for them after surrendering 95 points over their past three games while going 1-1-1 in that span.

The Texans Have a ‘Very Explosive Offense’

The Texans started 0-4, a season after starting 0-3, but they rank 10th in the NFL in total offense. They have taken off since it acquired Harrison from the Arizona Cardinals for two draft picks on Oct. 11.

“They’re a very explosive offense, and … they love the downfield attack,” Giants defensive tackle Shelby Harris said. “That Houston offense really, I think they are a budding offense and they’re just waiting to explode and it’s on us to really get them on the slow down.”

The Texans are also expected to get wide receiver Tank Dell back for Sunday’s game. Dell hasn’t played since sustaining a catastrophic knee injury in Kansas City in December 2024, and he’ll join an offense that ranks fourth in the league in passing (270.2 yards per game).

But the Giants’ passing defense ranks fifth (190.2 yards allowed per game), which means that matchup could decide the game.

“They’ve got a lot of good players, and they’re trying to figure it out,” Giants defensive tackle D.J. Reader said. “It should be a good matchup for us.”

C.J. Stroud Is the Engine That Makes Houston’s Offense Go

Stroud’s struggles in the postseason have doomed the Texans the past two seasons, especially his four-interception game in their 28-16 playoff loss to the New England Patriots in January.

But Stroud has been great in the regular season, and this year has been no exception. He is second in the NFL in passing yards (1,714) and has just one interception, tied with the Jets’ Geno Smith for the fewest among any quarterback who has played six games.

“When you have a quarterback like C.J. Stroud, that makes everything possible. He can make every throw,” Harris said. “I wouldn’t call it a resurgent year because I don’t understand the hate that C.J. Stroud has been getting, but I see a quarterback that really is dynamic and is one of the better quarterbacks in the league.
