They are 20-year-old Davion Campos, 18-year-old Jose Campos and 19-year-old Alina Guillen, according to court records. Davion and Jose Campos are brothers, while Guillen is married to Davion Campos.

All three face two counts of first-degree murder and nine counts of first-degree assault. Davion Campos has an additional charge of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, while Jose Campos is charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Josiah Midgyett, 16, died in the shooting, The News Tribune previously reported. Documents say Midgyett died at about 2:25 a.m. in a parking garage at 923 Commerce St., Park Plaza North.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s public portal lists Midgyett’s cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

Court records say Jose Campos was injured at a shooting in the parking garage the night before. In the records, a police officer said they received a tip saying the shooting that killed Midgyett was in retaliation for Jose Campos’ injury.

During the suspects’ arraignments, court commissioner Meagan Foley issued $5 million bail for each Davion and Jose Campos, and $1.5 million bail for Alina Guillen. Foley entered not-guilty pleas to all the counts on each defendant’s behalf.

“Given the number of charges, this certainly seems to be a planned execution,” said deputy prosecuting attorney Lisa Wagner. “Five suspects arrived, all but the female were wearing masks when they came in. They had multiple guns.”

Prosecutors said both Campos brothers have a criminal history, with Davion having previous first-degree assault charges and first-degree kidnapping charges.

“Those charges had to be dismissed due to the state being unable to locate the victim in that case,” Wagner said.

Jose Campos showed up to court wearing the cast and splint from a gunshot wound he took to the hand on Saturday morning. Wagner said he has previous convictions of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and cases from when he was a minor “that have been sealed.”

Guillen received a lower bail because she was not shown on video with weapons and has a less substantive criminal history, with a previous charge for driving under the influence and selling cannabis to someone.

“Though she is not on video with the guns, she was the one driving the vehicle the suspects arrived in. They all exited the vehicle together. They had, in their possession, the guns,” Wagner said. “… She was the driver when they fled.”

All three defendants are forbidden from having contact with the victim’s family.

What happened on Oct. 18?

According to court records, police arrived after getting a call at about 2:24 a.m. When they arrived, they found Midgyett on the floor of the fourth story, surrounded by people. Some were giving him CPR.

Crews tried to save Midgyett’s life, documents say, but he died.

Midgyett’s friend told police Midgyett had received a text from a girl about a “meet up” in the parking garage earlier that night, so they decided to go. A different witness told officers she had seen four men walk into the fourth floor and fire at her.

While the witness was running, she saw Midgyett try to get into a vehicle with his friend, she told police — but a bullet hit Midgyett in the chest, which caused him to hit his head on the side of a garage railing.

The witness told police her right arm had been grazed by a bullet, documents say. Police later interviewed 10 more witnesses, all of whom said they had been shot at.

Police found shell casings at the scene, according to court records, and found surveillance footage from Pierce Transit that showed the street level of the parking garage from South Commerce Street.

In the surveillance footage, a black SUV drives west onto South 9th Street, documents say, and then at 2:18 a.m., five people walk east on South 9th Street and into the parking garage.

At about 2:22 a.m., the five people are seen leaving the parking garage and walking north on Commerce Street, then west on South 9th Street before walking out of the camera view.

One of the men in the surveillance footage had a sling and a cast in his right hand, documents say. Detectives found an assault report from the previous night that showed Jose Campos going to a hospital at about 3:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his right hand.

Police then investigated Jose Campos’s brother, Davion Campos, and found a picture on Davion Campos’ Facebook page that showed him wearing the same blue puffer jacket seen on one of the people in the surveillance footage.

On Davion Campos’ Facebook page, he lists his wife as Alina Guillen, documents say. Police pulled up photos of Guillen and compared them to the surveillance footage. Guillen allegedly was one of the five people.

Police later received a tip saying the shooting happened in retaliation for Jose Campos getting shot in the parking garage the night before, documents say. The court records don’t contain more details about the previous night’s shooting.

Officers later arrested Jose Campos in the 300 block of East Wright Street on Monday, Oct. 19, records say. Later that night, they arrested Davion Campos and Guillen in the 17400 block of 120th Avenue Southeast in Yelm.
