In a stunning turn of events, Jan-Lennard Struff defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets during their third-round match at Wimbledon.

Struff, the No. 74 ranked player in the world, produced some excellent tennis to pick up a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over Medvedev this Friday. He’s now in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
While there’s no question Struff deserves credit for the way he played, Medvedev’s performance is the main story right now. He was up a break in the first set, had a 5-2 lead in the second set and had a double break at his disposal in the third set. The fact that he didn’t win a single one of those sets is truly mind-boggling.
It certainly didn’t help Medvedev’s case that he had just 10 aces against Struff. That’s a big reason why he was broken five times this Friday.
After this afternoon’s match between Medvedev and Struff went final, tennis fans made it clear they’ve lost faith in the 2021 US Open champion.
In fact, some fans believe it’s time for Medvedev to leave the game of tennis behind.
“It’s time to retire, Medvedev,” one fan wrote on X.
“At just 30 years old, Daniil Medvedev looks completely finished,” a second fan commented. “Might be time to retire.”

“Medvedev is a generational loser,” a social media user declared. “Just like Tsitsipas, he’s just around due to raw talent. He has no game awareness, tactical awareness or patience.”
“I keep waiting for the Medvedev comeback but he might truly just be washed,” another fan said.
Still holding out hope.
The easy thing to do right now is quit on Medvedev and declare that his time as a Grand Slam contender is over.
That being said, Medvedev should be able to bounce back during the hard-court season. He won a title on this surface back in February and reached the final at Indian Wells in March before losing to Jannik Sinner.
Also, let’s not forget Medvedev’s history at the US Open. The former world No. 1 has proven he can go on a deep run in Queens, New York.
