The 61-year-old was driving a Toyota Camry west on Nicolaus Road when it collided head-on with an eastbound Tesla Model 3 near Canal Road. Officers from the CHP’s Auburn office, who responded about 3 p.m., said a preliminary investigation determined the Toyota crossed the double yellow lines, causing the collision.

The Toyota driver suffered fatal injuries, officers said. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division has not released his identity pending notification of next of kin.
