Crocker Art Museum<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

The Bee\u2019s food and dinning reporter Sean Timberlake and op-ed editor Hannah Holzer both gave praise to a local art staple.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Crocker Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Western United States, according to its website.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Established in 1885, the museum features Californian, Asian, European, African and Oceanic art collections plus a wide range of special exhibits and programs. \u201cMy mother enjoys art, and we are members at the Crocker, so I would probably take her there,\u201d Timberlake said. \u201cShe\u2019s no aficionado, but she just likes the outing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pazza Notte delivers artisanal pasta like the pappardelle di mare ($31),<\/b> consisting of sauteed lobster, shrimp, crab, asparagus, mixed vegetables and a sherry shallot cream sauce; authentic wood-fired pizza like the pizza forestale ($25),<\/b> which includes roasted portobello mushrooms, goat cheese and truffle oil.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For a sweet treat, order the gelato ($8)<\/b>, made fresh everyday in house, with changing daily flavors like tiramisu, summer berries and butter pecan.<\/p>\n

The restaurant, founded in 2000, boasts a simple philosophy: \u201cto use the best ingredients we could find, do as little to them as possible, and leave the quality and flavors to shine,\u201d its website said.<\/p>\n

State Capitol Park World Peace Rose Garden<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

If you have yet to walk around the Golden State\u2019s Capitol building, now\u2019s the chance! The State Capitol Park World Peace Rose Garden, along with Cafeteria 15L restaurant, was suggested by executive editor Chris Fusco.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The World Peace Rose Garden, established in 2003, holds more than 650 roses with more than 153 varying colors and fragrances, and is a part of the International World Peace Rose Gardens organization.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The garden was established for women, children and families and serves as a physical symbol and sanctuary of peace, love and inspiration for all. At its center is a Victorian-style fountain, along with many pathways and lined benches, a section honoring veterans and another section engraved with peace messages written by elementary school children.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mother-in-law will be in Illinois this year. But if we can ever lure her to Sacramento for Mother\u2019s Day, we\u2019d take pictures in the Rose Garden at the Capitol before going to Cafeteria 15L for brunch,\u201d Fusco said. \u201cIt\u2019s nice for both to be so close to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
