The Yuba and Sutter county boards of supervisors voted Tuesday to support California Republicans\u2019 push to split the state into two.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The \u201ctwo-state solution\u201d was originally pitched in August by Republican Assembly Leader James Gallagher, R-Yuba City, in response to California\u2019s redistricting measure\u2019s Proposition 50.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Gallagher\u2019s proposal \u2014 Assembly Joint Resolution 23 \u2014 has little chance of moving forward in the Legislature as Democrats maintain a supermajority in both chambers.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what to know:<\/p>\n

\u2022 On Tuesday, the Yuba County Board of Supervisors voted on a resolution in support of Gallagher\u2019s proposal. It passed unanimously, though Supervisor Gary Bradford was absent.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 The Sutter County Board of Supervisors passed their own resolution unanimously on May 26 in support of Gallagher\u2019s proposal. Supervisor Mike Ziegenmeyer said \u201cCalifornia\u2019s not a one-size fits all\u201d and the proposal addressed his concerns about spending transparency from state government. \u201cI respect other places, other cities, other counties \u2014 but we just have a way of doing things here,\u201d Ziegenmeyer said.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The map accompanying Gallagher\u2019s resolution corrals the state\u2019s population centers \u2014 like the Bay Area, San Diego, Los Angeles and Sacramento \u2014 into one state. Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Fresno, Glenn, Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Lassen, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Orange, Placer, Plumas, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tulare, Tuolumne and Yuba counties would be siphoned into one state.<\/p>\n
