Krispy Kreme is inviting fans to celebrate National Doughnut Day, and it won\u2019t cost you a penny.<\/p>\n

On Friday, June 5,<\/b> anyone can get a free doughnut of their choice<\/b> at participating Krispy Kreme shops nationwide, according to the North Carolina-based doughnut chain.<\/p>\n

No purchase is required.<\/p>\n

What is National Doughnut Day?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cNational Doughnut Day<\/b> is one of our most joyful traditions \u2014 a moment to celebrate the doughnuts people love, the guests who inspire us every day and the simple happiness that comes from sharing something sweet,\u201d Alison Holder, chief brand and product officer at Krispy Kreme, said in a news release.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

First celebrated by the Salvation Army<\/b> in 1938, the first National Doughnut Day was a fundraiser to benefit those impacted during the Great Depression, according to the organization\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cDonut lassies\u201d also served the sweet pastries to World War I soldiers, the Salvation Army said.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s on the menu at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition to its signature glazed doughnuts, Krispy Kreme\u2019s menu features a variety of iced and filled doughnuts.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Other treats include apple fritters and doughnut dots.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the fall, the brand added nine new doughnut flavors<\/b> to its lineup, including New York Cheesecake, Cinnamon Apple Filled and Original Glazed Cake, CharlotteFive previously reported.<\/p>\n

Seasonal flavors include Strawberries and Kreme and Original Glazed Blueberry Cake.<\/p>\n

The chain serves up a variety of hot and iced coffee drinks, including cappuccino, lattes and mochas, plus lemonade and strawberry chillers.<\/p>\n

Are there any limits to free donut deal?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

The National Doughnut Day deal comes with a few restrictions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Free doughnuts are limited to one per person, and will be available in-shop and drive-thru only<\/b>, Krispy Kreme said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Limited-time and seasonal treats \u2014 such as the banana pudding doughnut and the new \u201cMasters of the Universe\u201d- themed doughnut collection \u2014 are excluded from the offer, along with Original Glazed cinnamon rolls.<\/p>\n
