Incumbent City Councilmember Lisa Kaplan maintained a commanding lead and appeared poised for an outright victory in the race for North Natomas\u2019 1st District, according to updated county election results released Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Polls closed a week ago and ballot counting continued steadily. Roughly 23,000 ballots remain to be tallied, with the majority of the vote count expected to be completed by Friday, said Ken Casparis, a county elections spokesperson.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Tuesday\u2019s update showed incumbent Lisa Kaplan with a 10.6-percentage-point lead over challenger Jenn Chawla as Kaplan sought re-election in the 1st District. With 52.7% of the vote, the incumbent Sacramento City Councilmember appeared to have secured the majority needed to avoid a runoff election and win outright.<\/p>\n

The same could not be said in the race for the Board of Supervisors\u2019 seat for 1st District.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the race to replace Phil Serna, epidemiologist and former Sacramento mayoral candidate Flo Cofer expanded her sizable lead over rival and Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra compared to Friday\u2019s returns. Still, she remained below the threshold to avoid a November runoff.<\/p>\n

Cofer had garnered 45.6% of the vote, compared to Guerra\u2019s 29.4%.<\/p>\n

A far tighter race also persisted in the battle for Area 3 on the Sacramento County Board of Education. Annie Fischer led with 50.1% of the vote \u2014 59 votes ahead of Paul Keefer, who held 49.9%. On Friday, Keefer held a 2.8-percentage-point lead over Fischer with 51.4% of the vote.<\/p>\n

In most other key races, incumbents maintained comfortable leads from Friday\u2019s update, enough to avoid a rematch in November.<\/p>\n

In the 2nd Supervisorial District, incumbent Patrick Kennedy held 64.1% of the vote, compared with Ronnie Bell, who had 19.6%. Brian Lajda received 16.4%.<\/p>\n

In Sacramento\u2019s 5th District City Council race, incumbent Caity Maple held 68.4% of the vote toward her re-election \u2014 more than 51 percentage points ahead of Henry Harry, who held 16.7%. Santiago Mario Morales Jr. trailed with 14.9% of the vote.<\/p>\n

In the City Council\u2019s 7th District, incumbent Rick Jennings held 56.8% of the vote. Scott Lau received 27.3%, while Mark R. Velasquez trailed with 16%.<\/p>\n

The Sacramento County Board of Education\u2019s Area 1 race, Dominique Donette expanded her lead with 37.8% of the vote. Anna Molander Hermann held 28.8%, while Davon Thomas received 25.6%. Ralph Merletti trailed with 7.9%.<\/p>\n
